After all, the MRX 700 is one of the first AV receiver from anthem, who have made a name with official channel components for adults. This heritage is the amp already externally: sober and practical design, readable, and above all not to Flash display and no unnecessary multimedia frills – the iPhone takes only about an optional dock access to the internal circuitry.

The anthem you can’t blame excessive connectivity. But everything important and useful is available: pre outs, analog video (except S-video), USB and the immensely important RS232 socket.

The two USB inputs are reserved for audio data from external hard drives and memory sticks (all FLAC files but are not supported). The Ethernet interface on the back is only receiving Internet radio, for the nostalgic-looking RS232 socket plays a far more important role: not only the room correction curves calculated from the PC will find the way to the MRX 700, but also software updates that keep the anthem on the cutting edge.

The on screen menu is soberly held to capture fast and to operate. This helps the also rather objectively designed main remote control. A second, smaller command timer controlled only the adjoining room features of in zone 2. The seven stages of MRX 700 can provide either every conceivable 7.1 Setup (with additional speakers rear or front) or with the unused resources a separate room acoustic support. The anthem room correction or short ARC is a highly professional tool for the correction of Raumakustikfallen. For use is necessarily a PC with Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 required – and a RS – 232 interface. The computer software, a pretty high-quality USB microphone with sufficiently long cable and a serious three-leg tripod is included in the ARC package. On at least five and up to ten audio positions so readings can be determined and stored for two different configurations (for example, with or without subwoofer as movie and music).

The anthem receiver is enabled only for generating the test tones, the recorded results are passed directly from the microphone via USB to the PC and processed there. Out comes a complex frequency chart per an appropriate speaker, representing the measured curve in relation to the desired reference waveform. The PC calculates the adjustments equalizer and sends it to the receiver. There, they are activated via the option “room EQ on/off” per input.


That the anthem is a mature powerhouse, one could already guess in the listening room, the laboratory provides confirmation: true sine wave power stereo 8/4 Ohms: 2 x 142/213W, RMS power surround 8/4 Ohms: 5 x 106/132W. Hearing test
